Until it is recorded, the written steps below are complete on their own.
Steps
- Attest a resume version on the Resume page.
- Beneath an attested line, press Request a reference for this line.
- Enter the referee's name, email address, and their relationship to you.
- TraceScout sends them one short question by email. This is not a background check.
- The referee opens the link and sees only the single claim you asked about.
- They answer Yes, this matches what I saw, Partly, some of this matches, or I cannot confirm this.
- They may add an optional note. If their relationship looks like a manager or supervisor, they also see two optional short behavioral questions.
- Once answered, the line shows a chip: Confirmed, Partly confirmed, or Reference could not confirm, naming the referee where given.
- On the Resume page, press Turn on my badge to create a public link showing your overall attestation and reference confirmation counts, separate from any single job posting.
Worth knowing
- Reference confirmation is one person confirming one claim from your attested resume. It is not a full background check.
- An unanswered request shows Awaiting response. An unused link can expire.
- The verification badge shows overall attestation and reference confirmation counts. It is separate from any client link created for a tailored resume.
